COMPANY B, JUNIOR B and MINI B are audition-based competitive performance groups under the artistic direction of Carley Bailey and Taylor Gnam.  The Canadian School of Ballet's goal is to provide exceptional pre-professional performances that will enrich our local dance community as well as allowing our dancers to compete in various dance competitions. These groups provide committed dance students with an opportunity to achieve a higher level of education in the performing arts through additional training, expanded performance opportunities and dance competitions. COMPANY B and JUNIOR B will compete in 1-4 competitions per dance season in the Okanagan and may include travel within and out of the province. MINI B will compete in a minimum of 2 dance competitions.  These can consist of local and away competitions depending on the year and at the discretion of the instructor(s).   MINI B is intended as an introductory program to our higher level performance companies; however, requires the same amount of commitment as the older groups.

COMPANY B, JUNIOR B and MINI B have enjoyed outstanding success in festivals and competitions which include top scoring awards as well as choreography awards. Since its inception, COMPANY B has performed at the Tommie Awards; Earth, Wind & Fire – Nature Trust Fundraiser; the Okanagan Arts Awards, Opening Ceremonies of the Children's International Winter Games, Skate Canada, COHA's Swinging with the Stars and Disneyland's Dance the Magic Parade.  These companies work with teachers/choreographers to learn multiple group dances throughout the year.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE!!!  NOT ALL DANCERS WHO AUDITION WILL WILL RECEIVE A SPOT IN OUR PERFORMANCE COMPANIES.  PREPARE YOURSELF AND YOUR DANCER FOR THIS OUTCOME. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL US AFTER THE FACT TO QUESTION OUR DECISION. DECISIONS WILL NOT BE CHANGED BECAUSE OF PARENTAL COMPLAINTS.  Decisions are based on skill level/technique, performance level during the audition as well as throughout the regular dance season, work ethic and, most importantly, attitude.

ATTENDANCE:  This is a major component to the success of our program.  Attendance at all rehearsals is of the utmost importance.  Vacations and holidays should not be booked unless you are fully aware that they will not coincide. If a dancer is not in attendance, the instructor has every right to remove them from the choreography completely or from the block of choreography missed.  If a dancer misses multiple rehearsals they will be removed from the program.  We do our best to include a tentative schedule at the beginning of the season.  It is difficult for us to know the exact amount of rehearsals that will be needed.  For this reason the schedule is SUBJECT TO CHANGE and we will do our best to give you as much notice as possible.

***INPUT: We ask that you refrain from questioning our judgement, decisions, casting and choreography.   We are dance professionals and we have extensive knowledge and experience in the dance industry.  While we appreciate your willingness to offer ideas or feedback, we don't need it when it comes to anything dance or choreography-related. We really only need your trust and support ***

PLACEMENTS/ROLES:  Choreography is not an easy task.  Placement of dancers plays a large role in how effective and successful the choreography will be. Please know that there will be dancers that may never reach the front row.  Each dancer has their own personal potential and each individual's learning style and ability are different.  This does not mean your dancer is not an integral part of the choreography. Each dancer adds to the dance and patterns, and choreography would not be available without them.  There are in fact Broadway dancers as well as Professional Ballerinas who only dance in the ensemble and never in lead roles.   This is part of the dance world and this needs to be understood before auditioning for our performance companies.

BEHAVIOUR: Gossip and negativity will not be tolerated. We are a dance family and each and every parent and dancer needs to fully support one another.  Competition within the group does not create a positive atmosphere and we encourage parents to explain and teach this to their dancers. This also goes for competition between parents; we are not here to create dance moms.  We are here to nurture and encourage each dancer and help them become the best versions of themselves.  These are life lessons and they will come into play for the rest of your dancer's life.
